Copyright happens when an individual or organisation creates work and applies it to work that is seen as original.
Interpretation is related to the independent creation than the idea behind the creation.
Names, titles, short phrases and colours are not colours are generally consideration unique or substantial enough to be covered. Creation such as a logo that combines all of these may be covered.
Normally the individual or collective who authored the work will exclusively own the rights.
Only the owner, or his licensee can bring proceedings in the courts against an infringement of law.
We applied for copyright due the fact that it would be an infringement of the law and it could possibly result in us being sued by the record label. This is because we wouldn't have permission to use their content that they own and do not possess the rights to upload the video to the Internet (YouTube).
When we applied for Copyright we had to find out Tame Impalas Record Label in order to gain permission to use the song. We found this by going on his website http://www.tameimpala.com/ then getting in contact with the record label and then emailing them the pre-written structure asking for permission.
Copy of the E-mail we sent to the record label is below.
After a few days we recieved a reply from the label stating that we were allowed to use the song, only if we followed the strict guidelines which are below.
